Barretto hat-trick sparks dramatic White Coppice win

September 1, 2026

Marcus Barretto’s career-best figures of 5-14 – including a dramatic hat-trick – secured a four-wicket win for White Coppice Sunday XI.

In moments of pure drama, Barretto served up a performance for the ages by dismissing Sam Conron, Harris Kirby and Finnlay Mangnall in successive balls as Bretherton slipped from 86-5 to 86-8.

The hat-trick catch was taken by Anis Haider as the fielders crowded the bat, sparking scenes of wild celebration.

Barretto was one of eight bowlers used, with the other wickets shared among Syed Bukhari, Ben Knights, Dan Warbrick and legendary wicketkeeper Ant Dark.

Sam Conron was the only Bretherton batter to reach double figures with a knock of 54. The next-highest scorer was extras with 22 as the innings closed on 99 all out after 34 overs.

Fresh from hitting the first six of his career, Paul Dobson scored 20 off 56 balls, with three fours, at the top of the order before falling plumb LBW.

Chris Dale played a lovely knock of 25, with five fours, and Barretto completed a memorable match with a patient innings of 10 off 58 balls.

Haider (4 not out) and Nathan Shepard (8 not out) were there at the end as Coppice reached their target in the 32nd over.

Special mention to Bretherton’s Sam Conron for a spectacular catch down at cow corner to remove Affy.
