White Coppice 3rd XI beat Euxton Sunday 2nd XI by seven wickets on Sunday, with several standout performances.
Euxton won the toss and batted first, with openers Max Walkden and Andrew Walken taking the score to 21 before Hisham Changi made the breakthrough.
Chris Dale (2-15), Joe Seager (2-7) and last week’s hero Marcus Barretto (2-2) all took two wickets, while there was also a wicket for Oliver Mawdesley.
Seager also pulled off a fantastic run-out after collecting a wayward throw from Jim Lawrenson.
There was a nice moment at the start of Coppice’s innings, with Lawrenson opening the batting alongside his big-hitting son Max.
He joked: “As we walked out I said to him, ‘right Max, I will give them a false sense of hope by throwing my wicket away first ball, then you just have to bat to the end’.”
True to his word, Big Jim was out first ball – but Max followed his dad’s instructions to the letter, hitting an unbeaten 27 from 52 balls.
Captain Tom Dulson said: “Special moment of the day goes to Max for shouting a booming ‘Noooo’ after he played a shot over mid-on for four!”
Max and Chris Dale (21 not out) then shared an unbeaten 54-run partnership to see Coppice home.
